Arsenal is nearing the signing of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, with manager Mikel Arteta endorsing the substantial deal. Additionally, talks have begun with La Liga’s Sevilla for a loan transfer involving a midfielder.
After finishing second in the Premier League for the past two seasons, Arsenal is edging closer to challenging Manchester City for the title. Despite City securing their fourth consecutive title with ease, Arsenal is gearing up to surpass them next season.
Arteta’s leadership has significantly improved the team over the past two seasons, with the club’s transfer strategy, guided by sporting director Edu, yielding positive results. Arsenal’s search for a prolific striker continues, though their interest in Benjamin Sesko ended when he renewed his contract with RB Leipzig.
They have also considered Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances since joining in 2020. However, Osimhen’s high release clause and injury concerns have led Arsenal to pursue Gyokeres instead.
Gyokeres has had an impressive season, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in 50 matches. According to Portuguese source Leonino, Arsenal is close to securing Gyokeres for an initial €90m (£75m), potentially rising to €120m (£100m) with add-ons, making it one of Arsenal’s most expensive transfers. Arteta has approved this move, viewing the 26-year-old as a crucial addition to the team.
Simultaneously, Arsenal is discussing the potential loan of Albert Sambi Lokonga to Sevilla. Lokonga, signed for £17.2m from Anderlecht in 2021, struggled to secure a place under Arteta and was loaned to Crystal Palace and then Luton.
Sevilla, currently experiencing financial difficulties, sees Lokonga as a possible replacement for Joan Jordan, who might depart this summer.
With his contract running until 2026, Arsenal hopes a successful spell in La Liga will rejuvenate Lokonga’s career, though his future with Arsenal remains uncertain.
