Arsenal is actively looking to enhance their attacking options this summer to improve their prospects for a more competitive title run next season. A key target for them has been the Belgium international, Bakayoko, who has been on their radar for some time.
Although Arsenal has not yet finalized an agreement with either Bakayoko or his current club, PSV Eindhoven, the likelihood of securing a deal appears promising. An offer in the region of €45 million is believed to be sufficient to persuade the Dutch club to part with one of their standout players.
Bakayoko, 21, had an impressive 2023-24 season, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 33 league appearances. Additionally, he contributed one goal and one assist in eight Champions League matches.
Bakayoko predominantly plays on the right side of the attack. However, it’s challenging to envision him overtaking Bukayo Saka, who is a mainstay in that position for Arsenal, should the transfer materialize.
Bakayoko might prefer a move where he is assured a spot in the starting lineup, which could be a stumbling block for Arsenal in securing his services.
Arsenal needs to bolster their attacking depth, and Bakayoko’s quality and playing style make him a fitting candidate. Nevertheless, it’s uncommon for a 21-year-old to willingly accept a potential bench role, which may complicate negotiations.
Currently, Bakayoko is participating in the European Championship with Belgium, having played 33 minutes so far.
He is expected to replace the suspended Dodi Lukebakio against Ukraine on Wednesday, providing him an opportunity to impress potential suitors. Arsenal will continue monitoring his performance throughout the tournament before making a final decision.
