Arsenal forward Kai Havertz recently revealed that Manchester United had expressed interest in him while he was at Bayer Leverkusen, but the club opted not to pursue negotiations due to the high transfer fee. Manchester United initially approached Havertz in January 2020, at which time Leverkusen demanded £90.8 million for the promising German player.

During this period, Manchester United chose to bolster their attack by signing Facundo Pellistri, Amad Diallo, and Edinson Cavani instead of pursuing Havertz. Although Havertz’s time at Chelsea did not fully showcase his potential from Leverkusen, he has begun to flourish with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League.

In recent months, Havertz has shown glimpses of the prodigious talent he exhibited as a 19-year-old captain at Leverkusen.

His performances have likely caused some regret among Manchester United officials, as he now plays a crucial role in Arsenal’s attack. Havertz’s ability to drop deep, facilitate play, and hold up the ball has been particularly impressive.

Since joining Arsenal, Havertz has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 35 league appearances. This contribution of nearly a goal or assist every other game highlights his value to the team.

There is speculation about how his career might have unfolded differently had Manchester United secured his transfer in 2020.

Looking ahead, if Havertz continues his upward trajectory, he is likely to justify the £65 million Arsenal paid Chelsea for his transfer two summers ago.

His consistent performances could be pivotal in Arsenal’s pursuit of the league title, solidifying his importance under Arteta’s management.
