Rumors suggest that Alexander Isak of Newcastle United might require Chelsea to spend over £200 million to sign him. Chelsea is on the hunt for a striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, who scored 14 goals in the Premier League in his debut season.
Despite reaching an agreement with Barcelona for young striker Marc Guiu, Chelsea reportedly still aims to sign another forward.
The Blues inquired about Isak with Newcastle and indicated their willingness to proceed if a deal could be made, according to a report in The Daily Mail.
Isak, a top scorer in the Premier League, led Newcastle with 23 goals in all competitions last season. However, Chelsea’s chances of signing the Swedish international would diminish significantly if they had to pay more than the £115 million they did for Moises Caicedo last summer.
The Northern Echo reports that Chelsea might have to break the £200 million barrier to acquire the 24-year-old, as Newcastle is keen to retain one of their star players. Newcastle remains relaxed, doubting that Chelsea would be willing to pay such a high fee, but this could change if Isak pushes for a move.
While a move for Isak seems unlikely, he is the type of player who could elevate Chelsea’s performance. The Blues have also shown interest in Lille’s Jonathan David and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion. However, their pursuit of Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran appears to have cooled.
Additionally, Chelsea youngster Cesare Casadei might leave this summer, despite being highly rated by the club. It’s shaping up to be another busy summer at Stamford Bridge, with the club having already signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham and expecting an announcement for Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa for £19 million.
Chelsea is also looking to offload several players, although progress has been slow, with Ian Maatsen’s impending £37.5 million move to Villa being the only notable departure so far.
Casadei, who joined from Inter Milan in 2022 for £12.6 million plus £4.2 million in add-ons, has had positive loan spells at Reading and Leicester City.
Despite Chelsea’s strong midfield options, Casadei’s departure is possible if he requests to leave, as the club would not stand in his way and he could command a higher fee than what was initially paid. The futures of other young talents like Omari Hutchinson, Andrey Santos, and Angelo Gabriel also need to be decided.
