Juventus have shown interest in acquiring Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and might consider offering one of their key players in a potential exchange deal. Greenwood’s position at Manchester United has been uncertain since January 2022 due to serious allegations of attempted rape and assault. Although Greenwood has strongly denied these allegations, the charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023, resolving his legal issues.
In light of the controversy, Manchester United decided to loan Greenwood to Getafe for the 2023-24 season after conducting an internal review.
During his time in La Liga, Greenwood performed impressively, scoring ten goals and providing six assists, which earned him the title of Getafe’s Player of the Season. Despite his successful spell in Spain, Manchester United are now looking to sell Greenwood, but their £42 million asking price has deterred potential buyers, including Getafe.
Juventus, however, remain interested in Greenwood but are hesitant to meet Manchester United’s valuation. According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus may propose a swap deal involving Federico Chiesa, an attacker who could offer Manchester United a valuable alternative.
Federico Chiesa’s future at Juventus is also uncertain, as his contract with the Serie A club runs until 2025, and extension negotiations are yet to be concluded.
The decision on Chiesa’s future is expected to be delayed until after Euro 2024, pending discussions between Juventus and his agent, Fali Ramadani. While Juventus would prefer to keep Chiesa, the final decision will depend on the player’s own ambitions and plans.
Besides Juventus, another Serie A club, Lazio, has also emerged as a potential destination for Greenwood, providing Manchester United with another option for offloading the 22-year-old forward. This highlights the dynamic nature of Greenwood’s transfer situation and the strategic decisions both clubs face in the upcoming transfer window.
As the football community anticipates the results of these discussions, the futures of Mason Greenwood and Federico Chiesa remain interconnected in a series of negotiations that could significantly impact European football in the coming seasons.
Juventus’ interest in Greenwood demonstrates their aim to strengthen their attacking lineup and their willingness to utilize existing talent to facilitate significant transfers.
