Omari Hutchinson, positioned centrally in the celebration, rejoices after netting one of his 10 league goals while on loan at Ipswich, aiding their promotion efforts.
Ipswich Town has finalized a landmark agreement to permanently acquire Chelsea forward Omari Hutchinson for a potential fee of up to £22 million, with the deal expected to be completed over the weekend.
This transfer marks another significant achievement for newly promoted Ipswich, securing a key player instrumental in their impressive rise from the Championship last season.
Hutchinson, set to turn 21 in October, delivered a standout performance with 10 league goals and solidified his position in Kieran McKenna’s starting lineup during the latter half of the season.
His exceptional play as a wide forward earned him the title of Ipswich’s young player of the year.
The initial transfer fee from Ipswich to Chelsea is reported to be £20 million. Arsenal, which Hutchinson departed for Chelsea two years ago after seven years in their academy, will receive a percentage of the transfer fee.
This deal far surpasses Ipswich’s previous record expenditure of approximately £5 million for goalkeeper Matteo Sereni in 2001.
Securing Hutchinson is the second major achievement of the summer for Ipswich, alongside McKenna signing a new long-term contract, despite strong interest from Brighton, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
Ipswich continues to remain active in the transfer market as they prepare for their first top-flight season in 22 years. They are expected to sign West Ham defender Ben Johnson on a free transfer.
On the other hand, Chelsea has made a £30 million offer for Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and seems to be leading the race against Brighton for his signature.
Dewsbury-Hall played a crucial role in Leicester’s promotion under Enzo Maresca, who is now the head coach at Chelsea. Chelsea might include player exchanges in the deal, whereas Brighton proposed a swap involving Jakub Moder.
