Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Fabian Ruiz from PSG, as Mikel Arteta seeks to strengthen his midfield. Caught Offside has reported that Ruiz is among the players Arsenal is considering to fill the left-sided midfield role.
This interest comes as Arteta aims to find a suitable replacement for Granit Xhaka, who left the club, and he is specifically looking for a left-footed midfielder who can offer unique qualities to the team.
Ruiz, a standout performer for Spain during their victorious Euro 2024 campaign, has not been as prominent at PSG under coach Luis Enrique, only making 21 league appearances last season.
With PSG potentially looking to sign Joao Neves, they might be willing to listen to offers for Ruiz, making him available for a new opportunity.
Arsenal could be an appealing destination for the 28-year-old midfielder, given his technical skills, which Arteta highly values.
The report also suggests that Arsenal might initially propose a loan deal with an option to purchase Ruiz at the end of the season. However, PSG’s asking price for Ruiz is around €45 million, so it remains uncertain whether they would accept a loan arrangement.
While Ruiz is a viable target, Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad is reportedly Arteta’s primary choice for the midfield position. Merino’s qualities align closely with what Arteta is looking for, making him the top priority. Arsenal plans to approach Real Sociedad with an offer once they settle personal terms with Merino.
However, if they are unable to secure Merino, Ruiz could become the primary focus for Arsenal’s midfield reinforcement.
Either player would significantly enhance Arsenal’s midfield and support the development of young talents within the team.
