Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing Manchester City’s Mateo Kovacic as his major summer signing for £25 million. Manchester City is open to sales, and Mourinho, who recently took over as Fenerbahce’s manager, sees Kovacic as a key addition.

So far, City’s summer activity has been limited, with only one new arrival and a few departures of fringe and young players.

There have been rumors linking City’s stars like Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne to the Saudi Pro League. Kovacic, too, has been speculated as a potential departure, with Fenerbahce showing interest.

The Sun (28/07, pg. 57) reports that Mourinho is keen to make Kovacic his “marquee” signing this summer. If City receives a £25 million offer, the same amount they paid Chelsea for Kovacic, they might consider selling him.

Interestingly, Kovacic has been connected to Mourinho’s teams multiple times, yet the two have never worked together.

Mourinho has managed at Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter, but Kovacic joined each club after Mourinho had left.

Although Kovacic had a decent first season at City, he did not consistently stand out. If Fenerbahce meets City’s valuation, the club might decide to sell. This could also create more opportunities for Matheus Nunes at City.

Nunes struggled for playing time in his debut season, with Kovacic often preferred by manager Pep Guardiola. If Kovacic leaves, Nunes might have a better chance to establish himself in the team.
