During the current summer transfer window, Manchester City has experienced the departure of several players. Notably, Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis have left the club on permanent deals to join other teams.
Historically, Manchester City has been open to loaning players to other clubs, a strategy they’ve employed to ensure their players gain valuable experience.
This has included loaning seasoned players like Joao Cancelo, as well as younger talents such as James McAtee and Josh Wilson-Esbrand, to provide them with regular playing time abroad.
In light of this, new information has surfaced regarding another potential loan move. Kalvin Phillips, a current member of Pep Guardiola’s squad, is reportedly being considered for a loan move before the transfer window closes.
According to The Athletic, Phillips has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, but a loan deal appears to be the most likely outcome.
Phillips, who is currently participating in the team’s preseason training in the United States, may get some game time in upcoming friendly matches against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona, and Chelsea.
However, his long-term future at the club remains uncertain. City initially signed Phillips from Leeds United for £45 million, but his first season at the Etihad Stadium was marred by limited playing opportunities.
Subsequently, he was loaned to West Ham United during the January transfer window, where he struggled to make a significant impact, starting only three of the eight Premier League games he played in. West Ham’s striker Michail Antonio has commented on Phillips’ apparent loss of confidence during this period.
If it becomes clear that Phillips will not be a regular feature in City’s lineup next season, a loan move to another club where he can play consistently might be the best option for reviving his career.
From City’s perspective, they must decide whether to loan him out again or find a club willing to purchase him at a reasonable price.
