His replacement, Stefan Ortega, made a crucial save to deny Son Heung-min from scoring, which was pivotal in City’s victory and clinching the Premier League title.
Ortega’s performance received high praise, with The Athletic suggesting that Ederson might have been affected by the compliments towards his understudy. This speculation led to rumors that Ederson was considering a move away from City, with reports of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.
However, Ederson addressed these rumors on Instagram, strongly denying any dissatisfaction with his teammate or any intention to leave the club.
He clarified that the claims made by The Athletic were inaccurate. Ederson expressed that the day he got injured was one of the most challenging in his career, especially since the injury prevented him from playing in the final stages of the season and representing Brazil in the Copa América.
He stated that his primary concern during the injury was to continue defending City’s goal in the title race, but the severity of the injury, which affected his vision, made it impossible for him to continue playing.
Ederson emphasized his commitment to City and his focus on preparing for the upcoming season, dismissing any notions of discontent or a potential transfer.
