According to HITC Football, Atletico Madrid is keen on acquiring Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez and is reportedly willing to include Joao Felix in the deal. Joao Felix, who previously had a loan spell with Chelsea and recently returned from Barcelona, appears to be surplus to requirements at Atletico.
The Premier League champions, Manchester City, are considering their options but seem disinterested in bringing Felix on board. Instead, they are keen to retain Alvarez, who has been a significant part of their squad.
Despite Atletico’s interest, there are no strong indications that City is willing to part with Alvarez. Pep Guardiola’s team is reportedly confident in holding onto the Argentinian striker, viewing him as an essential player for their future plans.
Atletico Madrid’s continued pursuit of Alvarez stems from their understanding that the 24-year-old is unhappy with his current role at Manchester City. Alvarez reportedly seeks a more prominent position within the team.
Although he started in 39 matches across all competitions last season, he missed crucial games, including both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid and the final four Premier League matches.
This limited involvement has fueled speculation about his desire for a move, with Atletico seeing an opportunity to bring him to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Furthermore, Atletico Madrid believes Alvarez is open to a transfer to Spain, as neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona has shown interest in him. Therefore, Atletico stands as his primary option if he wishes to play in La Liga.
However, negotiations are expected to be challenging, as Manchester City likely values Alvarez highly. While Atletico is reportedly prepared to offer £70 million for the striker if Joao Felix is not part of the deal, this amount is anticipated to fall short of City’s valuation.
With other major clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain seemingly out of the running, Atletico might feel they have leverage in the negotiations.
However, they may need to increase their offer to meet Manchester City’s expectations and secure Alvarez’s services.
