BREAKING NEWS:Angry Cole Palmer sends clear message to Gareth Southgate after benching him throughout EURO 2024 tournament

England’s defeat in the Euro final marked their unfortunate record as the first team to lose consecutive Euro finals. In contrast, Palmer, visibly disappointed, encouraged his teammates to stay positive and use this setback as motivation for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

Speaking to ITV, the 22-year-old Chelsea star reflected on their journey to the final, acknowledging the desire to advance further and emphasizing the need to remember the pain of this defeat to drive their efforts in future competitions.

Palmer’s forward-looking attitude exemplifies his elite mentality. Despite the disappointment, he recognized Spain as deserving winners of both the match and the tournament. “Spain have been brilliant all tournament, everyone has seen what they can do, so they’re a great team, congratulations to them,” Palmer said, though he admitted the loss was painful and left him “gutted.”

Having scored 27 goals across all competitions in the previous season, Palmer had to accept a substitute role in the Euros, with Southgate favoring players like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka.

Despite limited playtime, Palmer made a notable impact, assisting Ollie Watkins’ winner against the Netherlands in the semi-final and scoring in the final.

The defeat also cast uncertainty over Gareth Southgate’s future as England’s manager, with increasing pressure on him to step down after four major tournaments. Palmer, however, praised Southgate’s contributions to the team, highlighting his success in leading England to back-to-back finals. “Gareth’s been amazing for the group,” Palmer noted, expressing a preference for Southgate to remain in charge.

Palmer also expressed his disappointment at not starting more games but respected the coach’s decisions. He emphasized his efforts to make the most of his opportunities on the pitch. After the match, Southgate stated he would consult with those close to him before making a decision about his future. “Now is not the best time to take a decision like that,” he told ITV. “I’ve got to talk to the right people. It’s not for right now.”

This narrative reflects the mixed emotions of the players and the coaching staff, underscoring the challenges and potential shifts in the team’s dynamics as they look ahead to future tournaments.
