Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, has successfully secured the permanent signing of goalkeeper David Raya, marking Mikel Arteta’s first senior acquisition of the summer. Initially brought in on loan, Raya’s move has now been formalized, making him a permanent fixture at the club.
Raya, a Spanish international, has firmly established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, having won the Premier League Golden Glove. The finalization of his transfer was anticipated, with Edu expressing high praise for Raya and his previous tenure at Brentford.
Edu stated, “We are thrilled to have finalized David’s transfer from Brentford. His first season with us was remarkable, highlighted by his Premier League Golden Glove win.
He is an international talent, a consummate professional, and well-liked within the club. His contributions during his loan spell were invaluable.”
Edu emphasized that Raya’s signing is a testament to Arsenal’s recruitment strategy, aimed at building a team capable of competing for major trophies.
He added, “We believe David will continue to be a key player for us, and we are excited about what the future holds with him on our team.”
Mikel Arteta, who initially hinted at Raya’s potential during his debut at Everton, also spoke highly of the goalkeeper.
Arteta praised Raya’s significant impact and leadership within the team, stating, “David proved his importance to us last season, and we are delighted to have him officially as part of our squad. He is a strong presence in the dressing room, and we are eager to continue working with him.”
Arteta further expressed confidence in Raya’s ability to build on his previous success and contribute to the team’s future achievements. “We have a talented group of goalkeepers, and the camaraderie within our goalkeeping unit is something I cherish. David’s foundations from last season will undoubtedly lead to more success in the years ahead.”
The move underscores Arsenal’s commitment to strengthening their squad with key players capable of driving the team towards greater accomplishments.
Both Edu and Arteta are optimistic about Raya’s continued impact and the role he will play in the club’s journey forward.
