Arsenal, under the management of Mikel Arteta, are on the verge of finalizing the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. The deal is expected to be completed next week, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal have been in negotiations with Bologna and have now reached an agreement with both the player and the Italian club.
Calafiori, a graduate of the AS Roma academy, has had a remarkable rise over the past year. He returned to Serie A with Bologna and had an impressive debut season, participating in 33 matches and contributing to seven goals.
His performances earned him a spot in the Italian national team for Euro 2024. Although Italy didn’t perform as expected in the tournament, Calafiori’s strong defensive displays attracted attention from several top European clubs.
The 22-year-old defender made it known to the Bologna board that he was ready to move on to a bigger club. Despite initial reports suggesting he preferred to stay in Italy, Calafiori is now set to join Premier League giants Arsenal.
The North London club has been diligently working to secure his services and has agreed on personal terms with the player for a five-year contract. Arsenal will pay Bologna €40 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons, to complete the transfer.
