TRANSFER UPDATE: Mikel Merino has been given the green light as Fabrizio Romano confirms that Arsenal is set to finalize a £28M deal for the world-class midfielder.

Arsenal and Fulham have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emile Smith Rowe, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The former Arsenal academy player, who had been highly regarded as a wonderkid, is leaving his boyhood club after struggling to secure a spot in Mikel Arteta’s lineup over the past two seasons, which were marred by injuries.

Smith Rowe, now 24, has had limited playing time since the 2021/22 season and is eager for more senior minutes. While Arsenal would have liked to keep him as a depth option, they have decided not to hinder his desire for regular playing time.

Fulham and Crystal Palace both showed interest in Smith Rowe recently. Fulham initially had a bid rejected by Arsenal, who are looking to generate funds for squad improvements this summer.

However, Fulham’s latest offer has been successful. According to *Sky Sports* and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Fulham and Arsenal have agreed on a transfer deal for Smith Rowe.

The deal is valued at €40 million, with €32 million paid upfront and the remainder in potential add-ons. Personal terms between Smith Rowe and Fulham have already been agreed upon.

Smith Rowe is expected to leave Arsenal’s US tour to return to Europe, where he will undergo a medical examination and sign his new contract with Fulham. He will then join the Fulham squad in Portugal.

This transfer is significant for Arsenal, as they have been working quickly to finalize the deal to facilitate their pursuit of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

FootballTransfers reported that Arsenal are in a strong position to sign Merino and have already agreed on personal terms with the Spanish midfielder.

Earlier on Monday, Arsenal were pushing to complete the Smith Rowe transfer to Fulham to proceed with their plans for Merino. With Smith Rowe’s departure imminent, Arsenal is expected to submit an official offer for Merino soon.
