Manchester City is gearing up for a potential £200 million spending spree in the upcoming summer transfer window, with manager Pep Guardiola aiming to make significant additions to his squad ahead of the next season. Already the reigning Premier League champions, City is determined to strengthen its team further after a successful season, which included a historic Champions League victory.
One of the key signings already secured by City is Claudio Echeverri, who will join the club in early 2025 after a £12.5 million deal was finalized in January. Echeverri will remain at River Plate until the end of the year, but this acquisition is just the beginning of City’s transfer plans.
Guardiola is expected to have substantial funds available for further signings, building on last summer’s significant expenditure of over £200 million on players such as Josko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku, and Mateo Kovacic. City’s ambition remains high, and they are targeting several high-profile players to enhance their squad.
One of the top targets for City is Lucas Paquetá from West Ham United. The Brazilian midfielder is close to securing a move to the Etihad Stadium after a previous £80 million transfer deal fell through last year due to an FA investigation into betting rule violations.
In addition to Paquetá, City is also interested in Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, who has impressed with 19 goals in 36 appearances this season. However, prying Musiala away from Bayern could prove challenging, especially after the German club’s recent Bundesliga title loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
Guardiola’s interest extends to other midfield talents as well, including Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle United and João Neves of Benfica. Both players have established themselves as key defensive midfielders for their respective teams and could provide City with the depth and strength needed in the midfield. The potential addition of up to three new signings could significantly bolster City’s squad ahead of the next campaign.
Meanwhile, Manchester City is also progressing in their FA Cup run, having defeated Chelsea to reach the final. Despite their Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, the club remains open to further acquisitions as they plan for continued success in the future.
At the same time, there are growing rumors about possible bids for City’s star midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva as the transfer window approaches.
With both players earning a combined £700,000 per week, potential suitors are preparing offers to lure them away from the Etihad. Should either Bruno Guimarães or João Neves join City, Rodri could face increased competition for his starting role, although the Spanish international is likely to retain his position even after the transfer window closes.
