BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United has finalized a deal for their fifth signing, securing an agreement through 2027, with the player’s name and jersey number now revealed.

The Manchester United captain has put an end to transfer rumors by agreeing to a new contract.

Bruno Fernandes, who had been the subject of speculation due to United’s disappointing 2023/24 season, has decided to stay at the club. United finished eighth in the Premier League, their worst performance since the 1989/90 season, which fueled rumors about Fernandes’ potential departure.

Despite the team’s struggles, Fernandes delivered strong individual performances. He played 48 games across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists. His contributions were crucial in helping Manchester United secure the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City at Wembley.

Throughout the summer, Fernandes was linked with a move to various clubs, including Saudi Pro League teams and European giants like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Inter Milan. However, it now appears that he will remain at Old Trafford.

Fernandes initially signed a contract in April 2022, which was worth approximately £220,000 per week and was set to expire in 2026, with an option to extend for an additional year.

However, football journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Fernandes is close to signing a new contract that will make him one of Manchester United’s highest-paid players.

Romano shared the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Manchester United have reached an agreement with Bruno Fernandes to extend his contract!”

He further explained that the new deal will run until June 2027, with an option to extend it until June 2028.

The revised contract will also see Fernandes’ salary rise to one of the top levels at Manchester United. Romano added that everything is expected to be finalized before the end of the summer transfer window.

With his future at the club secure, Fernandes will lead Manchester United into the new Premier League season. The team is set to begin their campaign with a home match against Fulham on Friday.
