BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United has finalized the signing of a £70m defender after the board decided to allocate funds for his transfer last night. A medical is scheduled for today.

Manchester United is actively pursuing a new midfielder, with numerous options now emerging in the market. After talks for Manuel Ugarte failed to progress, several other possibilities have surfaced, though many of these seem to be offered by intermediaries rather than being direct targets for the club.

Among the potential candidates, some familiar names have reappeared, yet it’s unclear whether Manchester United will pursue all of them.

Youssouf Fofana remains an option, though reports indicate that the club isn’t actively chasing him. Additionally, Atalanta’s Ederson has also been linked with a move.

Another notable mention is 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Danilo, currently with Nottingham Forest. His name has been floated as a potential fit for Manchester United, given his Premier League experience and style of play. However, it appears that the suggestion of Danilo might be more driven by agents or intermediaries rather than being a priority for the club.

The possibility of a move would likely hinge on Nottingham Forest’s asking price, as they invested significantly in Danilo 18 months ago when they signed him from Palmeiras.

Manchester United’s midfield situation remains somewhat unsettled. Joao Gomes has also emerged as a potential target, bearing some similarities to Danilo in terms of playing style.

Manager Erik ten Hag seems to be looking for a midfielder with strong combative qualities, though not necessarily a traditional defensive midfielder.

The current midfield roster is not considered sufficient for a team aiming to compete for the title or even secure a top-four finish.

At present, only Kobiee Mainoo appears to be a definite starter for Manchester United. There are also efforts to offload Casemiro, but the lack of substantial interest in the Brazilian midfielder has increased the likelihood that he might remain with the club.

This situation may prompt Manchester United to explore more affordable options to strengthen their midfield and bring in another player who can contribute effectively.
