Phil Foden was a notable absentee from Manchester City’s lineup for their Premier League match against Ipswich Town on Saturday. Despite the anticipation surrounding the game, with former City players Arijanet Muric and Liam Delap featuring for Ipswich in their first-ever trip to the Etihad, Foden did not make the squad due to illness.
The 24-year-old, who had come off the bench in the second half during the previous week’s match against Chelsea, was not among the 40 players listed across both teams for this fixture.
Foden’s absence was felt alongside Issa Kabore, another player from City’s academy who had been part of the Community Shield matchday squad. In contrast, returning midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was named among the substitutes.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola decided to stick with the same starting XI that began the game at Stamford Bridge six days earlier. Ederson started in goal, behind a back four consisting of Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol. Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Nathan Ake were again selected as substitutes.
In midfield, Rodri was unavailable due to injury, so Mateo Kovacic continued in the holding role. Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva retained their positions in central midfield, providing the creative and tactical foundation for City’s gameplay.
Despite the changes and Foden’s absence, Manchester City aimed to maintain their momentum as they faced Ipswich Town, looking to build on their previous performances.
