Arsenal is set to face Bayer Leverkusen in their upcoming friendly match, marking a return to the Emirates for some familiar faces within the German club.
Among the notable departures from Arsenal last summer was Granit Xhaka, whose move surprised many fans. Xhaka, who was instrumental for Arsenal during the 2022/2023 season, pushed for a transfer to Leverkusen last summer.
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen, Xhaka has enjoyed considerable success, playing a pivotal role in the team’s unbeaten run to win both the German league and the domestic cup. His impact has been significant, showcasing his quality and influence on the pitch.
Now, Xhaka returns to the Emirates as part of Xabi Alonso’s squad, aiming to challenge Arsenal in this friendly match.
Reflecting on his return to his former club, Xhaka shared his thoughts with Bild, saying, “I had a wonderful time at Arsenal and still keep in daily contact with many of the players and staff. I remain in touch mainly with Thomas Partey, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel Jesus.
“When you play at a club for seven years, the return is always special. I’m looking forward to the game, a very strong opponent, an opponent that we also have to prepare for in the Champions League.”
From a Just Arsenal perspective, Xhaka was one of the key players in his final season at the Emirates. Many Arsenal fans are not surprised that he has quickly found success in Germany with Leverkusen.
