DEAL DONE: Arsenal has officially signed Club Player of the Season, Fabrizio Romano, who is set to undergo his medical with Arsenal today.

Arsenal is reportedly interested in signing Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle before the summer transfer window closes on Friday, according to The Athletic. With the recent loan departure of Karl Hein and the potential exit of Aaron Ramsdale, the Gunners are seeking to bolster their goalkeeping options. Tickle, a young and promising England international, has emerged as a potential target.

Tickle had an impressive season with Wigan Athletic, where he was named Player of the Season. His performances were crucial in helping Wigan secure a 12th-place finish in League One, despite starting the season with an eight-point deduction.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper kept 18 clean sheets in 52 appearances, showcasing his talent and consistency. His strong form also earned him a debut with England’s under-21 team in March 2024, where he contributed to a 7-0 victory over Luxembourg in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

Arsenal is considering Tickle for the role of third-choice goalkeeper. However, the club is also exploring other options, including Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, who could potentially replace Ramsdale as second-choice. It remains uncertain whether Tickle would be willing to leave his current starting role at Wigan for a backup position at Arsenal.

The Gunners are determined to add at least one more goalkeeper before the transfer window closes, and Tickle’s profile is particularly appealing. In addition to his abilities, he would help meet the team’s homegrown player quota. Arsenal had previously shown interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Dan Bentley, but negotiations did not advance.

Tickle, who stands at 6ft 2in, has made 58 appearances for Wigan since his debut in 2021. He became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, leading to a new four-year contract that runs until 2028.
