Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes responded to Jadon Sancho’s Instagram post after Sancho’s impressive performance in his debut for Chelsea against Bournemouth. Sancho, who came on for Pedro Neto at halftime, made a significant impact from the left wing and provided the assist for Christopher Nkunku’s winning goal.
Sancho is currently on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United and took to Instagram to express his happiness: “Delighted to make my @chelseafc debut, and to top it off with a win.”
Fernandes, who previously captained Sancho during their time together at Manchester United, commented on the post, saying, “Some player you 🔥 keep that smile.” This response, however, drew mixed reactions from fans.
Some were critical of Fernandes, with one saying, “Be serious, Bruno,” while another simply urged him to “Delete.” Further comments included, “You having a laugh Bruno?!!!” and “Some captain you are 😂 Roy Keane would have dragged you out by the scruff of your shirt.” Another fan added, “He disrespected the club and fans you play for.”
Despite the backlash, some fans defended Fernandes. One supporter commented, “He is praising his friend..? This is the problem with this world,” emphasizing that Fernandes was simply showing support to a friend rather than acting in a way that disrespected Manchester United.
While Fernandes provided an assist during United’s 3-0 win over Southampton, Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, indirectly criticized Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag for his handling of Sancho. Sancho had been sidelined by Ten Hag after a public dispute about his training commitment.
Maresca stated, “I feel Jadon is a player who needs support. This is what I thought when I spoke with him before he joined us. He has the desire to prove himself, but the key is to enjoy football. When they are happy and enjoying the game, they perform well.”
Looking ahead, Chelsea is set to face West Ham in their next fixture, while Manchester United will be traveling to play Crystal Palace.
