Before making any decisions about his international future, Greenwood plans to consult with both the Football Association (FA) and Tuchel to understand their views on his potential return.

Thomas Tuchel took over as England’s manager following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after Euro 2024, with his 18-month contract beginning in early 2025. Greenwood, who earned his first and only England cap in 2020, is determined to secure more appearances for the national team.

After facing serious legal challenges in 2022, Greenwood resumed his professional career with a loan spell at Getafe, which eventually led to his current position with Marseille. Since joining the French club, he has displayed strong form, scoring five goals in seven Ligue 1 matches, showing that he still possesses the talent to compete at a high level after a period away from the game.

An insider source told The Sun that “Mason knows his chances with England are slim, but he seeks clarity on his standing with the FA and Tuchel. His goal is to compete at the top level, with the World Cup as his ultimate aim. If England does not present an opportunity, he may consider representing Jamaica in 2026.”

However, a return to the England squad appears unlikely. Both former manager Gareth Southgate and interim coach Lee Carsley were hesitant to reintegrate Greenwood, and Tuchel, along with the FA, may adopt a similar approach to avoid any potential public backlash.

Greenwood also faces stiff competition from England’s deep pool of attacking talent.
