Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are actively planning for the upcoming season and recognize the need to acquire a high-quality central striker. Head coach Luis Enrique is pleased with the progress of Ousmane Dembélé within the squad but understands that a top-class striker is essential to maximize the performances of both Dembélé and Bradley Barcola.
According to the Spanish publication El Nacional, Viktor Gyökeres has emerged as a potential target for PSG. The Swedish striker has had an exceptional season with Sporting Lisbon, establishing himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in European football.
His impressive performances have also attracted interest from Barcelona, where head coach Hansi Flick reportedly considers him an ideal reinforcement for their attack.
PSG are prepared to present a significant financial offer to secure Gyökeres’ services ahead of any other club. However, Barcelona’s financial struggles may prevent them from competing with the Parisian club in the transfer market.
While Flick sees the Swedish forward as a crucial addition, the Catalan club’s budgetary constraints make the deal difficult to execute.
Throughout this season, PSG’s attacking department has been inconsistent, with both Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani failing to deliver the expected results. As a result, Enrique is determined to bring in a striker who can guarantee goals and seamlessly integrate into his tactical setup.
Gyökeres appears to be the perfect fit for Enrique’s system due to his strong physical presence, clinical finishing, and adaptability in the attacking third. His goal-scoring record with Sporting Lisbon—34 goals in 35 matches—makes him one of the most sought-after strikers in the market.
While Barcelona view Gyökeres as a key solution to their attacking problems, PSG’s financial strength gives them a significant advantage in the race for his signature.
Should PSG secure the Swedish striker, Enrique would have an exciting attacking trio featuring Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the wings, with Gyökeres as the focal point of the attack.
This setup would provide pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring efficiency, potentially making PSG a dominant force in European football.
If Barcelona fail to sign Gyökeres, they will need to explore alternative options to bolster their frontline. Given PSG’s financial edge, competition in the transfer market will be tough, and Flick may be forced to identify another striker if Barcelona cannot resolve their economic difficulties in time.
