Andrea Berta is reportedly pushing Arsenal to sign a £51 million-rated midfielder to complement Martin Zubimendi.
Berta, who has attempted to secure this player three times before, is actively involved in Arsenal’s transfer plans. The club is prioritizing midfield reinforcements for the upcoming season, with reports from AS suggesting that Arsenal could bring in two midfielders during the next transfer window.
With Thomas Partey and Jorginho likely to leave upon the expiration of their contracts on June 30, Arsenal is already in advanced discussions with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
The Spanish midfielder has a £51 million release clause, and while Arsenal has yet to negotiate a lower fee with Sociedad, they are confident about finalizing his transfer this summer.
Additionally, Arsenal’s incoming sporting director, Andrea Berta, is interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. Berta previously attempted to bring Guimaraes to Atletico Madrid, making three bids to sign him from Audax to Lyon, but was unsuccessful.
Although Guimaraes is happy at Newcastle, he reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave for £51 million if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League next season. If Arsenal manages to secure his transfer, it would be a major statement of intent.
The club has long admired Zubimendi, previously attempting to sign him before he decided to stay with his boyhood club. However, he now appears ready for a new challenge, giving Arsenal a strong opportunity to bring him to the Premier League.
Adding Guimaraes would further strengthen Arsenal’s midfield. The Brazilian has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. His impressive stats include averaging 6.8 duels, 4.9 recoveries, and two tackles per league match. He also boasts a 58 percent dribble success rate and has created 11 key chances.
At 27 years old, Guimaraes has been a vital contributor this season, registering 11 goal contributions, nine of which have come in league matches. His arrival would be a major boost for Arsenal, but negotiating a deal could be complicated.
As things stand, finishing fifth in the Premier League could still secure Champions League qualification. Newcastle currently sits just behind Manchester City on goal difference, leaving their European hopes uncertain.
