Andrea Berta is actively working on securing up to seven new players for Arsenal, with the club preparing to spend around £300 million in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Since his appointment as the sporting director at the Emirates Stadium, Berta has been focused on reshaping the team’s core. According to GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, his primary objective is to strengthen Arsenal’s squad significantly.
One of the major setbacks this season was Arsenal’s inability to sign a striker before the winter transfer deadline. This issue became even more pressing when Kai Havertz suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.
As a result, Berta and manager Mikel Arteta are determined to make major reinforcements during the summer.
Arsenal’s Transfer Strategy Under Berta
Berta is set to make a significant financial commitment to strengthen the squad while ensuring compliance with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. Reports from GMS suggest that Arsenal is confident in their ability to operate within financial regulations despite their ambitious plans.
Last summer, Arsenal’s most significant signing was Riccardo Calafiori, who arrived from Bologna for £42 million.
However, the club did not make any mid-season acquisitions, which has contributed to their struggles in the Premier League title race, allowing Liverpool to establish a lead.
Berta’s recruitment strategy focuses on multiple positions, with Arsenal looking to sign a second-choice goalkeeper, a left-back, a defensive midfielder, a left-winger, and a striker. There are also plans to add backup for Bukayo Saka and potentially bring in a dynamic central midfielder.
One of Arsenal’s key targets is Martin Zubimendi, who has a £51 million release clause at Real Sociedad. Additionally, the club is scouting other talents in La Liga, including Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams and Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
With an estimated budget of £300 million, Arsenal aims to strengthen the squad to compete for major trophies. Declan Rice remains Arsenal’s record signing after joining from West Ham United for £105 million in July 2023, but the club is optimistic about further investment this summer.
Berta has also suggested Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães as a potential midfield signing alongside Zubimendi. Arsenal is additionally interested in Guimarães’ teammate Alexander Isak, and discussions have been held regarding RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who is reportedly keen on joining Arsenal.
Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has also expressed interest in working under Arteta, making him another possible addition. With several key positions to address, Arsenal is preparing for an eventful and transformative transfer window.
