Hansi Flick’s Stance on Rafael Leão and Barcelona’s Transfer Plansµ
Barcelona is already shaping its squad for next season, with sporting director Deco identifying key priorities in the transfer market. Currently, Hansi Flick relies on three main wingers: Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres.
While players like Ansu Fati and Pau Víctor are also in the squad, the German coach does not consider them essential to his project. Rafael Leão: A Target for Barcelona
One of the names generating significant excitement within the club is Rafael Leão. The Portuguese winger, currently playing for AC Milan, is particularly admired by Joan Laporta.
The Barcelona president sees Leão as a game-changing player, capable of making a difference in crucial moments. His exceptional speed, dribbling ability, and unpredictability make him an attractive prospect to enhance Barça’s attacking power.
At 25 years old, Leão is already an established star at Milan, proving himself on the biggest stages. However, signing him will be a major challenge, as the Italian club is unlikely to part with one of its most valuable assets easily.
Additionally, his high market value presents another obstacle. Despite these difficulties, he remains on Barcelona’s list of potential reinforcements.
Hansi Flick’s Concerns About Leão
Despite the excitement surrounding Leão, not everyone at the club is fully convinced about his signing. According to reports from El Nacional, Hansi Flick has shared his thoughts on the Portuguese winger, expressing some doubts. While the German coach acknowledges Leão’s talent and potential, he believes the player lacks consistency.
Flick sees Leão as someone who can deliver moments of brilliance but struggles to maintain a high level of performance throughout an entire season.
Another major concern is his defensive contribution. Barcelona’s coach prioritizes a high-intensity pressing system, requiring all players to work hard off the ball. However, Leão is not known for his defensive work rate, which makes him a less-than-ideal fit for Flick’s tactical approach.
Flick’s Preferred Alternative
Given these concerns, Flick reportedly favors other wingers who align better with his style of play. One of the names high on his list is Nico Williams. The Spanish international, despite experiencing fluctuations in form, brings a level of energy and intensity that Flick values. Williams’ off-the-ball movement and defensive work make him a stronger candidate for Barcelona’s squad than Leão.
