Barcelona remain in the race for all available titles this season, but within the squad, discussions are intensifying about the need for a more dynamic and mobile striker—one who better aligns with the playing style of the team’s young talents.
According to the Spanish outlet El Nacional, key players Pedri and Lamine Yamal are advocating for a change in the forward line, urging the club’s management to bring in a world-class striker capable of elevating Barcelona’s attacking play.
Currently, Robert Lewandowski continues to be a prolific goal scorer, maintaining a solid tally this season. However, concerns have emerged within the squad regarding his limited mobility in certain matches.
While his finishing ability remains undeniable, some players feel that his style of play does not fully complement the team’s evolving tactical approach. Pedri and Lamine Yamal, both highly influential in Barcelona’s attacking midfield, believe a more agile and versatile striker would significantly enhance their effectiveness on the field.
The duo prefers a striker who actively participates in build-up play rather than waiting for service inside the penalty area. They have reportedly shared their views with trusted individuals within the club, emphasizing that a forward with greater movement and link-up ability would bring a new dimension to Barcelona’s attack. Their preferred candidate for this role is Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
Isak possesses the technical skillset and mobility that Pedri and Yamal desire in a striker. His ability to connect the midfield with the attack and exploit spaces makes him an attractive option for Barcelona.
However, acquiring him poses a significant challenge due to his high market value. Despite this, club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have not dismissed the possibility of making a move for him, depending on the club’s financial situation.
With Lewandowski still a crucial figure in the team, Barcelona are carefully evaluating their options. However, given his age and substantial salary, the club is open to considering offers for him in the summer. If a suitable bid arrives, the Polish striker’s departure could pave the way for a more mobile forward.
The growing support from Pedri and Yamal for an offensive reshuffle could push Barcelona’s management to prioritize signing a new number 9.
