However, according to the Spanish outlet El Nacional, the outcome this time is drastically different. Despite interest from the player’s camp, Barcelona’s management, along with new coach Hansi Flick, swiftly rejected the idea of bringing Silva to Camp Nou.
Now 30 years old, Silva is no longer seen as a suitable fit for Barcelona’s evolving philosophy under Flick. The German manager is intent on rebuilding the squad with younger players who possess both the hunger for silverware and the physical attributes necessary for his high-energy playing style.
Flick reportedly views Silva’s age and current form as potential drawbacks, especially given the midfielder’s dip in performance this season with Manchester City.
This isn’t the first time Silva has been considered by the Catalan club. During Xavi Hernández’s tenure, he was identified as a prime target due to his technical skills and versatility.
