Following his outstanding display against Borussia Dortmund, Hansi Flick made a surprising move by personally urging the Barcelona star to remain at the club and not consider a departure.

Hans-Dieter Flick recently took a personal and proactive step after learning about Fermín López’s dissatisfaction with his current role at FC Barcelona and his growing thoughts about exploring future opportunities elsewhere.

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, López is reportedly seeking more playing time and a bigger role within the team, but has often found himself in a secondary position, frequently coming off the bench instead of starting matches. This has led to frustration on his part, as he believes he deserves more responsibility and consistent inclusion in the starting eleven.

The reason behind his limited role is largely due to the stiff competition in Barcelona’s midfield. Whenever available, Dani Olmo has been the go-to option for the coaching staff, consistently starting alongside established names like Pedri González and Frenkie de Jong. As a result, Fermín has had to accept a less prominent role.

However, he has made the most of every opportunity he’s been given, showcasing his potential and quality — most notably in the recent match against Borussia Dortmund. In that game, he was one of the standout performers, assisting Robert Lewandowski and helping secure an important victory that all but confirmed Barça’s place in the Champions League semifinals.

López’s talent, commitment, and relentless work ethic have not gone unnoticed by Flick. The German manager reportedly met with the young Spanish midfielder to express his appreciation and to make it clear that he values him highly, even if he’s not always in the starting lineup.

Unlike some players whose future is uncertain, Flick has made it known that he considers López to be an essential piece of Barcelona’s present and future. He emphasized that he doesn’t want to lose a player with such qualities and made it clear he would not entertain transfer offers for him.

Despite interest from major European clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Atlético Madrid — who are all reportedly preparing bids — Flick is determined to keep López at Camp Nou.

He reassured the player of his importance to the team and expressed his hope that López will remain committed to the club and fulfill the terms of his recently signed contract. Flick’s message was clear: he counts on Fermín López and wants him to stay.
