FC Barcelona is actively preparing for the upcoming season, with a strong emphasis on reinforcing their attacking line. Head coach Hansi Flick has made it clear that boosting the offensive department is one of his top priorities.
Even though the team already has the experienced Robert Lewandowski, Flick believes that signing a new striker is crucial to add depth and competition in the frontline.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, one of the leading candidates being considered is Benjamin Šeško, a 21-year-old Slovenian striker currently playing for RB Leipzig. Šeško has caught the attention of many European clubs due to his impressive form and goal-scoring abilities.
His blend of strength, speed, and aerial prowess, coupled with his 1.95-meter frame, make him a perfect match for Flick’s tactical system. Šeško is not only effective as a central striker but also possesses the ability to drift wide and connect well with teammates, offering great versatility in attack.
While Lewandowski remains a key player for Barcelona, his recent performances have raised concerns. Although he still scores goals, his influence is gradually declining due to age. Flick, who previously coached Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, understands the need for healthy competition to keep the Polish striker motivated and performing at a high level.
Šeško’s potential move to Barcelona faces financial hurdles. His release clause is estimated at around €50–60 million, a significant amount considering Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles. Nonetheless, the club’s management is exploring several strategies, including the sale of existing players, to generate the funds necessary to secure the deal.
RB Leipzig is not eager to let Šeško go, as he plays a central role in their plans. However, the appeal of joining a prestigious club like Barcelona, especially under a coach like Flick, may be enough to persuade the young striker to make the switch.
If the transfer goes through, it could signal the start of a new era for Barcelona’s attack. Flick’s objective is to create a dynamic and powerful forward line, and bringing in Šeško would be a major step toward that vision.
Although Lewandowski still holds an important role, the addition of Šeško could reduce his prominence and shift the focus to the club’s future generation of attackers.
