Just hours after sealing the LaLiga EA Sports title — adding to their successes in both the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey — Hansi Flick has already set his sights on preparations for the upcoming season.
While this campaign has been largely successful on the domestic front, the disappointment of falling short in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals still lingers. This setback has fueled Flick’s determination to strengthen the squad and make Barça more competitive both in Spain and on the European stage.
In pursuit of this goal, Flick plans to refresh the team by bringing in new players and letting go of those he no longer considers vital to his project. The German manager has presented sporting director Deco with a list of six players he believes should be moved on during the summer transfer window.
Among those identified for departure are Iñaki Peña and Héctor Fort. Flick reportedly has little confidence in either player’s ability to contribute to his long-term vision for the club. Peña’s situation stands out in particular.
Initially trusted to step up in the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen due to injury, Peña eventually lost his place to Wojciech Szczęsny. Since then, he has struggled to regain Flick’s confidence and now finds himself on the chopping block.
Also facing uncertain futures at the club are Pablo Torre and Pau Víctor. Although both have shown moments of promise when given opportunities, they have struggled to secure consistent playing time, largely due to the intense competition for places in the squad. Given the circumstances, their chances of establishing themselves at Barça appear slim, prompting Flick to suggest their departures.
Another high-profile name on the exit list is Anssumane Fati. Once regarded as one of the club’s brightest young talents, the 22-year-old forward has endured a disappointing season, failing to meet expectations or justify his significant wages. Flick has reportedly run out of patience with Fati’s inconsistency and no longer believes he can revive the player’s fortunes at the club.
Lastly, Ronald Araújo is expected to be Barcelona’s marquee sale this summer. The Uruguayan defender, highly valued in the transfer market, could command a fee in the region of €60 million. Flick has sanctioned his sale as part of a broader plan to overhaul the squad and finance new signings ahead of the 2025 season.
