Manchester United has secured an agreement with a Bundesliga midfielder, whose weekly earnings surpass those of Declan Rice, for a four-year contract.
This new signing will partner with Kobbie Mainoo in midfield. United’s intention is to address the gap left by Casemiro’s departure, and the club has reportedly turned to the transfer market to reinforce their midfield.
Kobbie Mainoo is poised to become Erik ten Hag’s central figure in the midfield. The young and talented player, who has represented England at all levels, is one of only three Manchester United players not listed for transfer at the onset of the Premier League season.
Besides Mainoo, the only other midfield options available for selection by Ten Hag are Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay.
According to recent reports, Manchester United is contemplating a move for Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka. Goretzka has been a crucial player for Bayern in recent years, although his prominence has slightly waned with the rise of Alexander Pavlovic.
Despite this, Bayern’s chief Christoph Freund has praised Goretzka, calling him a “top player” and a “leader.”
Freund highlighted Goretzka’s consistent high-level performances and his resilience, as evidenced by his recent displays despite a broken hand. Goretzka, a no-nonsense midfielder, scored six goals and provided seven assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season.
His statistics are comparable to those of Arsenal’s Declan Rice, a player Manchester United previously showed interest in before Rice joined Arsenal.
Goretzka, who earns £300,000 per week and has two years remaining on his contract with Bayern, has been made available for a transfer as the club seeks to rejuvenate their squad under Vincent Kompany. There are indications that Goretzka himself might be open to a move, particularly after being excluded from Germany’s EURO 2024 squad and seemingly falling out of favor with the national team.
In summary, Manchester United’s strategic move to strengthen their midfield involves securing a high-earning Bundesliga player, likely Leon Goretzka, to fill the void left by Casemiro and bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
