Arsenal are reportedly aiming to secure a Juventus player this summer. As the transfer window nears, the Gunners are anticipated to make strategic moves to bolster their squad, focusing primarily on the forward position.
Initially linked with Benjamin Sesko, new reports indicate that Arsenal’s attention has now shifted to Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.
Despite Mikel Arteta assembling a strong team, Arsenal still lag behind Premier League champions Manchester City. Arsenal finished five points behind City in the 2022/23 season and two points short in the following campaign.
To overtake City and win the title, Arsenal must further strengthen their squad. Acquiring a new striker and bolstering the right wing, especially to support Bukayo Saka, are top priorities. Their interest in Chiesa, a versatile Juventus star, aligns with these objectives.
Federico Chiesa, described as a ‘superstar‘ by Italian presenter Adriano Del Monte, had an impressive 2020/21 season with 15 goals and 11 assists. However, his performance in the subsequent three seasons has been less remarkable, totaling 18 goals and 13 assists.
According to Tutto Juve, Juventus are now willing to sell Chiesa, with Arsenal among the interested parties. The asking price is reportedly between €40 million and €45 million (£34m-£38m).
Despite Chiesa’s recent statistics, his versatility makes him an attractive option for Arsenal. Compared by Joe Cole to a young Luis Suarez, Chiesa can play across the front line and as a second striker.
This flexibility would allow him to be an ideal backup for both the striker position and the right wing, providing crucial rest for Saka.
While Chiesa could address two critical areas for Arsenal, it remains uncertain if the club will commit such a substantial amount for a player likely to serve in a backup role.
By targeting Chiesa, Arsenal shows their intent to add depth and versatility to their squad, enhancing their chances of competing more robustly against Manchester City.
This potential signing could significantly boost their attack and contribute to their title ambitions, pending Arsenal’s decision to finalize the deal.
