Teenage French midfielder Oriane Jean-Francois, highly regarded in her field, has officially transferred from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Chelsea FC.
The 22-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Chelsea, including a one-year extension option.
Jean-Francois began her senior career with Paris FC, making her first-team debut and signing her first professional contract just before turning eighteen. After establishing herself at Paris FC, she moved to PSG in the summer of 2022, where she played for two seasons and secured the Coupe de France.
However, her tenure at PSG faced a significant challenge when she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October last year during the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying.
This injury kept her sidelined for an extended period. Despite this setback, Chelsea recognized her potential and is eager to see her contributions on the field.
On the international stage, Jean-Francois has represented France at various youth levels, notably contributing to the Under-19 European Championship victory in 2019.
She made her senior debut for France in 2020 and has since earned five caps for the national team. Known for her versatility and dynamism, Jean-Francois can operate both as a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box player.
With 93 senior matches under her belt, Jean-Francois brings significant experience and a robust attitude to Chelsea. Expressing her excitement about the move, she said, “It is a good moment for my career and the player I want to be. I’m very happy to sign here and I’m excited to start my journey.”
Paul Green, Chelsea’s general manager, also praised the young midfielder, stating, “Oriane is a young, athletic defensive midfielder with good experience for her age.
She has shown a great attitude, and we are looking forward to seeing how she takes the next steps in her career whilst at the club.”
