Chelsea is actively involved in the summer transfer market, seeking to bolster the squad for new manager Enzo Maresca’s inaugural Premier League season and their bid for Champions League qualification.
One notable acquisition is Leicester City’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a familiar face for Maresca from his Leicester tenure. This signing aims to provide stability and familiarity as Chelsea strives for a strong start under their new manager, following a promising end to the last season.
Additionally, Chelsea secured Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham on a free transfer, addressing their defensive woes from the previous season where they conceded 63 goals. Adarabioyo’s experience is expected to fortify Chelsea’s backline.
Journalist Simon Phillips reports that Chelsea has also engaged in talks with Newcastle United regarding Anthony Gordon. Previously linked with Chelsea before his move from Everton to Newcastle, Gordon’s fee has now doubled from the £40 million it cost Newcastle.
Chelsea has also shown interest in another winger, a striker, and a left-footed defender, aligning with their discussions about Gordon and Alexander Isak. Both players combined for 44 goals and assists in the Premier League last season, indicating a potential boost to Chelsea’s attacking options.
Gordon’s rise to prominence began with his debut for Everton in the 2019/20 season, making 11 appearances. A loan spell at Preston North End in the 2020/21 season was followed by a breakthrough 2021/22 season at Everton, where he played 35 Premier League games, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
His versatility and consistent performances eventually led to a significant move to Newcastle, where he recorded 11 goals and ten assists in his first full season.
Gordon’s potential addition to Chelsea’s left-wing could significantly improve the team’s output. Compared to Chelsea’s current left-wing options, Gordon’s 21 goal contributions last season outshine Mykhaylo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling, who managed 19 combined. Gordon also excels in shot-creating actions, although Mudryk and Sterling surpass him in take-ons and progressive carries.
Dewsbury-Hall’s arrival could enhance Chelsea’s left side further. His exceptional progressive carrying and successful take-ons, ranking him among the top midfielders, could synergize with Gordon’s forward play.
Maresca’s tactical approach, which often positions wingers as advanced players and midfielders in supportive roles, suggests that the combination of Dewsbury-Hall and Gordon could be formidable.
Gordon’s speed and attacking prowess, combined with Dewsbury-Hall’s ability to drive from deeper areas, could pose significant challenges for opposition defenses, elevating Chelsea’s overall play.
With these strategic signings, Chelsea aims to build a robust and dynamic team capable of competing at the highest levels, leveraging the talents of players like Dewsbury-Hall and Gordon to achieve success.
