BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United has finalized the £70m signing of a defender after the board approved the funds for his transfer last night. His medical is scheduled for today—it’s happening!

Manchester United’s pursuit of a new midfielder has led them to explore various options in the market. The club has been linked with several players, especially after their negotiations for Manuel Ugarte did not progress as expected. However, many of the players being mentioned seem more like suggestions rather than concrete targets that Manchester United is actively pursuing.

Some of the names previously associated with the club have resurfaced, but it appears unlikely that Manchester United will seriously consider all the options currently on the table. Youssouf Fofana is still being mentioned, despite reports indicating that the club is not actively pursuing him. Additionally, Atalanta’s Ederson has also been considered as a potential option.

Recently, a report has surfaced regarding the 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Danilo, who has been offered to Manchester United. Danilo, currently playing for Nottingham Forest, could be seen as a viable option due to his Premier League experience and his playing style, which might suit Manchester United’s needs.

However, it seems that the proposal to bring Danilo to Manchester United is driven more by intermediaries than by a genuine interest from the club. Danilo might be eager for a move to a bigger club that competes for higher honors, but any potential transfer would largely depend on Nottingham Forest’s asking price. The club invested a significant amount to acquire him from Palmeiras 18 months ago, so they are likely to demand a substantial fee.

In terms of Manchester United’s midfield situation, Joao Gomes is another player being targeted, and he shares some similarities with Danilo. Manager Erik ten Hag seems to be looking for a midfielder with combative qualities, though not necessarily a defensive specialist.

The current options in Manchester United’s midfield are not considered strong enough for a team with ambitions of competing for the Premier League title or even securing a top-four finish.

At present, Kobiee Mainoo is the only midfielder guaranteed a starting spot. The club is also looking to offload Casemiro, but there has been little interest in the Brazilian, leading to the possibility that he might remain at Old Trafford. This situation may force Manchester United to seek a more affordable midfield option to strengthen their squad.
