Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he decided to sell Joao Cancelo because the player believed he was more important than the club and its staff.
Guardiola stated that he could no longer work with such a player, leading to Cancelo’s departure from the club.
This decision was confirmed in a statement on Manchester City’s official website ahead of their Premier League match against West Ham United. The statement announced that Cancelo had signed a permanent deal with Al Hilal.
Cancelo originally joined Manchester City from Juventus in the summer of 2019. During his time with the club, the Portugal international enjoyed success but also had loan spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Following the completion of his transfer to Al Hilal, Cancelo expressed his gratitude towards Manchester City. On the club’s website, he stated, “I want to wish everyone at City continued success in the future. I had many remarkable moments during my time at this fantastic club.”
This move marks the end of Cancelo’s time at Manchester City as he begins a new chapter in his career with Al Hilal.
