Hansi Flick has reportedly advised Barcelona to target Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford after they missed out on signing Athletic Club’s Nico Williams. Flick, who is looking for a left-winger capable of both scoring and dribbling, initially had his eye on Williams.
The Athletic Club winger had impressed with his performances during Spain’s triumphant Euro 2024 campaign, attracting attention from several top clubs. However, Athletic Club is unwilling to sell their star player this summer, forcing Barcelona to consider other alternatives.
With Williams likely staying put, Barcelona has begun evaluating other winger options. One surprising candidate is Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, along with Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman. GOL Sport journalist Albert Fernandez revealed that Flick specifically requested Barcelona to pursue Rashford as a potential solution for their winger search.
Rashford, now 26, is coming off a disappointing season at Manchester United, where he struggled to find his form. He finished the season with just eight goals and six assists in all competitions, a sharp decline from his previous performances.
His lackluster form also led to his exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, a clear sign of his dip in form. Despite this, Rashford has played in Manchester United’s first two Premier League matches of the new season, though his struggles in front of goal have continued.
Barcelona has not made any formal approach for Rashford yet, and it remains uncertain if they will act on Flick’s suggestion before the transfer window closes.
The club is in need of attacking reinforcements, and while Rashford’s recent performances have been below expectations, his talent and past success might still make him an appealing option for Barcelona’s management.
