Arsenal Reach Personal Terms with Benjamin Sesko as Arteta Pushes for Transfer
Arsenal have reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of highly-rated RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, having reached a personal agreement with the player. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Gunners are moving closer to finalizing a summer transfer for the Slovenian forward, with Mikel Arteta personally keen on bringing him to the Emirates.
Talks between the two clubs are currently underway, though the main sticking point remains the transfer fee. Leipzig has placed an €80 million (£67 million) release clause on Sesko, a figure Arsenal are eager to negotiate down. Discussions have already taken place in London as both parties attempt to align on a more agreeable valuation.
There is growing optimism that a full agreement will be reached before the end of the transfer window. Sources suggest that both Arsenal and Leipzig are open to finding common ground, while Sesko himself is believed to be interested in the move, with reports indicating he could earn around £200,000 per week if the transfer materializes.
Leipzig’s general manager Marcel Schafer and Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta are said to have recently met in London to further deliberate over the transfer.
Arteta has identified Sesko as a key addition to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season, having been an admirer of the striker for some time.
The 22-year-old was linked with a potential move to Arsenal last summer before deciding to sign a fresh five-year deal with Leipzig, which ties him to the Bundesliga side until June 2029.
However, interest in the talented forward has remained, and it now seems increasingly likely that he will leave Leipzig after just one season under his new contract.
In addition to their pursuit of Sesko, Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of announcing their first signing of the summer transfer window. Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi is expected to join from Real Sociedad, with the Gunners prepared to activate his €60 million (£51 million) release clause. A preliminary agreement was reached with the player last month, and the move would see Zubimendi line up alongside Declan Rice in Arsenal’s midfield for the upcoming campaign.
With both deals progressing, Arsenal’s transfer activity is beginning to take shape as Arteta looks to bolster his squad for a title challenge next season.
